All behold the mighty power of Facebook Status!
Social Networking sites have done more than just taken up a few minutes of our day, they are an all out addiction of cool! Addiction of cool may be a strong phrase for some, but I don't think so considering there are currently more than 400 million users on Facebook. Members are taking full advantage of their Facebooks in order to construct a social image of themselves. From what there pictures are, their friends, likes and dislikes, and status updates being the cream of the crop. You can see people on social networking sites anywhere were there is Internet access. Classrooms, restaurants, libraries, bathrooms if you get a good enough signal, and so much more! These social networking sites are used for every type of social situation, this is why they are in such high usage as of now. They can be used to find old friends, network, plan parties, support events, and even chat directly online. Advertisers see these sites as sanctuaries of data considering all the information people are posting about themselves. Research agents for advertising firms use these social network sites to see what today's different age groups see as being unique and interesting. Then they take it, put in a bottle, and offer it to them with online ad's taking up a side of your screen during the usage of these sites. For young people it is wedding ring offers, local singles, and free online video games. For middle aged users it is wrinkle creme, finish your degree ad's, and explanations of health care plans. These sites are so popular and effective because the offer a solution to the problem of making an actual effort to contact friends. Being connected to them all the time through these sites offers a venue that is seen as cool because everyone else is doing it. While these sites may take up time that could be used more productively, how can more than 400 million people be wrong?
